Conference for small, minorityâ€owned businesses offered by City, County
SAN ANTONIO, TX.- With the recent ground breaking for the $724 million expansion of Brooke Army Medical Center, the 8th annual Small, Minority, Women and Veterans Business Owners Conference
couldn’t come at a better time. That’s because Clark/Hunt Construction, the joint venture
serving as general contractor of the project, will be among 180 exhibitors at the conference
with billions of dollars in contracting and procurement opportunities. Furthermore, Clark
Construction Vice President Jim Ansari will be featured on the Money Talk Show during the
“How to Get in the Game and Stay in the Game,” the SMWBE conference sponsored by the City
of San Antonio and Bexar County, will offer small business owners the opportunity to learn
more about public and private contracting opportunities from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at
the Freeman Coliseum. Onsite registration will go from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The conference will begin with a networking breakfast and opening remarks from Bexar County
Commissioner Tommy Adkisson, San Antonio Councilwoman Delicia Herrera and U.S. Rep.
Charles Gonzalez. The conference continues with procurement exhibits from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
workshops, the “Money Talk” show and access to a veterans’ business center.
In the procurement exhibit hall, participants will have the opportunity to learn about and seek
billions of dollars in contracting opportunities for commodities, goods, services, construction
and professional services. Speakers and workshops will teach participants about growing and
managing a successful business; gaining access to capital; and doing business with federal,
state and local agencies and corporations, including the U.S. Air Force and Army. Participants
also will learn how to respond to requests for proposals and how to bid on projects.
The veteran business center will educate veterans about the many business opportunities
available only to those with prior service in the armed forces. Information on the Small Business
Administration Patriot Express Loan, marketing and presentation skills, federal contracting and
the Serviceâ€Disabled Veteranâ€Owned Small Business Program will be available.
The Money Talk Show features interviews with decision makers who represent federal, state
and local organizations, including the City of San Antonio, Bexar County, the U.S. Army, Zachry
Construction Corp. and U.S. Homeland Security, among others. The Money Talk Show will run
from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes 14 interviews.
