Hyatt Convention Center Hotel seeking applicants

SAN ANTONIO, TX.- The Grand Hyatt Convention Center Hotel is seeking residents who live in the Empowerment Zone (EZ) for employment opportunities. Some 18,000 residents living in the EZ area will soon receive job application information in the mail. Applicants should be 16 years of age or older, professional and service-oriented. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Scheduled to open in February 2008, the hotel has a variety of career opportunities with a minimum starting hourly wage of $10 for non-tipped positions. A full benefits package is available for all full-time associates and all associates will receive a free monthly bus pass for transportation needs.

Interested individuals should apply online by accessing the Hyatt Careers link at www.grandsanantonio.hyatt.com. Application assistance is also available at any Alamo WorkSource Center or by calling 210-436-0670.

The EZ consists of 26 census tracts encompassing 20 square miles in and around the City’s central business district and three developable sites—Brooks City-Base, the Fredericksburg Road corridor and Port of San Antonio/Toyota plant site. The general boundaries are Culebra and Grayson on the north, Coliseum Road on the east, Highway 90 and Martin Luther King Blvd. on the south, and 36th Street on the west.

Prospective applicants who are not sure if they live in the EZ can call the City’s Economic Development Department at 207-8080 or check the City’s website at www.sanantonio.gov/edd/empowersa.asp.

The EZ program is designed to promote economic development in targeted areas of the City by utilizing tax incentives as catalysts for private investment. Goals of the EZ include the promotion of business development within the Zone, the creation of job opportunities for EZ residents and long-term community revitalization.

The Grand Hyatt Convention Center Hotel project is an EZ partnership between the Grand Hyatt San Antonio, the City’s Economic Development Department and Alamo WorkSource.
