Mariachi Vargas makes Houston one of 20 U.S. stops

WHO: Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, El Mejor Mariachi Del Mundo (Best Mariachi in the World), is an internationally-esteemed group of 12 musicians made up of some of the best voices and musicians in all of Latin America. Mariachi Vargas has performed throughout the world for 110 years and five generations and serves as the original composers and musical arrangers for numerous popular mariachi songs such as La Bikina, Sabes Una Cosa and Cien Años. The Mexico City based group performs under the leadership of Maestro Ruben Fuentes, one of the greatest producers of mariachi music today.

Mariachi Vargas has recorded more than 60 CDs and has been featured in more than 200 films and music videos. Two of their latest recordings are Rancheras…y algo más and Sinfónico which include traditional rancheras and the combination of mariachi and symphony. Mariachi Vargas is known for recording with Luis Miguel on his Grammy Award-winning Mexico en la Piel project. The group is also known for touring with Linda Ronstadt during her Canciones de mi padre tour and for being featured in the nationally aired PBS special Mariachi: The Spirit of Mexico. Mariachi Vargas spent this past year performing in diverse destinations such as Prague, Czech Republic; Guadalajara, Mexico and San Antonio. This year the group will perform in nearly 20 U.S. cities in California, Arizona and Texas and throughout Latin America.
