Chamber to Host Mayoral Forum April 2 on KLRN
SAN ANTONIO, TX.– Four candidates selected by The Chamber’s Board of Directors will participate in a Mayoral Candidates Forum live at 8:00 p.m. (CST) on Thursday April 2, hosted by The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and aired on public television station KLRN.
“This is a critical election for our city, and our citizens need to be able to make an informed decision on their candidate of choice,” said Chamber President & CEO Richard Perez. “We have enjoyed four years of wonderful leadership and should expect no less of our next mayor,” he added.
Perez stressed that the forum will be unique since it will be televised live, which allows for a fresh, unfiltered view of the candidates. Because the election is a little over a month away, it is anticipated that there will be growing interest in the event.
To develop the format, The Chamber followed a process. First, The Chamber waited for the candidate filing deadline to assertain the full list of candidates. It became obvious that as a result of the one-hour time limit, we would not be able to invite all nine candidates and still have adequate time for a productive forum.
The nine candidates include:
1. Lauro Bustamante
2. Julian Castro
3. Diane Cibrian
4. Michael Idrogo
5. Sheila McNeil
6. Napoleon Madrid
7. Trish DeBerry-Mejia
8. Julie Iris Oldham
9. Rhett Smith
An e-mail was sent to the Board asking them to select the four candidates they would like for The Chamber to invite to our Forum. Following the Board’s input, the votes were counted and the following candidates were asked and have agreed to join us at the Forum:
• Julian Castro
• Diane Cibrian
• Trish DeBerry-Mejia
• Sheila D. McNeil
Unfortunately the taping is not open to the public, however, everyone in San Antonio may watch the forum as it happens at 8 p.m. on April 2nd on KLRN. Please check with your local television/cable provider for the channel.
