City Manager Appoints New Deputy City Manager

SAN ANTONIO, TX.-   City Manager Sheryl Sculley has named A.J. Rodriguez as Deputy City Manager. He will join the City’s management team on June 30, 2008. As Deputy City Manager, Rodriguez will oversee the areas of Economic Development, Intergovernmental Affairs, International Affairs, the Library system and Parks and Recreation.

Rodriguez joins the City with senior level management experience in business, legislative issues and public and external affairs. He currently serves as President and CEO of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, with more than 1,000 businesses as members. In his current position, Rodriguez is responsible for overseeing day-to-day Chamber operations, including the areas of business development, external affairs, finance, human resources, leadership development, member services, special events and communications.

“A.J’s experience as the leader of one of the oldest and largest Hispanic Chambers of Commerce in the country is an indispensable advantage and benefit to our City organization,” said Sculley. “I look forward to working with him as we continue to develop new and improved business practices in our daily delivery of services to our community.”

Previous to his tenure with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber, Rodriguez served as the Vice President of Public Affairs with the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and was responsible for serving as the Chamber’s advisor on all local, state, and national level issues, as well as supervised the Directors for Leadership San Antonio and Texas Scholars program. Rodriguez also spearheaded the efforts of the Greater Chamber of Commerce with the City/County Bond campaign.

“I believe my new position with the City of San Antonio will afford me the ability to continue to grow professionally while providing the opportunity to continue serving our community,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business.
