SAPD Headquarters named as site for new Federal Courthouse
SAN ANTONIO, TX.- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced today that the San Antonio Police Headquarters located at 214 W. Nueva has been selected as the site for the new San Antonio Federal Courthouse.
"We are extremely pleased with the GSA’s selection of the Police Headquarters," said City Manager Sheryl Sculley. "It compliments the City’s comprehensive community planning and economic development goals for downtown San Antonio.”
The new Courthouse will be in excess of 375,000 square-feet and is necessary due to the expansion and security needs of the Fifth Circuit Courts in the Western District of Texas, which cannot be met in the current John H. Wood, Jr. Courthouse and Spears Training Center.
“The City is making great progress in revitalizing the downtown area and we now have an excellent opportunity to continue these efforts by creating a new civic corridor and government center for our community with the addition of the new federal courthouse," said Sculley.
The City of San Antonio and the GSA will engage in negotiations for the acquisition of the Police Headquarters site.
Deputy City Manager Pat DiGiovanni will be available for comment on the site selection. Please contact the City’s Communications and Public Affairs Department at 207-7234 to set up an interview. For more information about GSA’s site selection process, please visit WEBSITE.
