Voelcker Park Open House to feature Native American dance, storytelling
The Apache del Rio Intertribal Organization will perform Native American dances and demonstrate the art of storytelling as part of the Voelcker Park Open House, 12000 N.W. Military Highway, scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6.
The City’s Parks and Recreation Department’s Natural Areas staff will also provide kid-friendly nature activity stations featuring arrowhead necklace making, flint knapping demonstration, and making Native American inspired music shakers and dream catchers.
Parking for this event is located just south of the Campus at the San Antonio Jewish Community on Northwest Military Highway.
Plans for the first phase of this new 311-acre park recently received approval from the Historic Design and Review Commission. Initial improvements include a one mile loop trail and parking grove. Plans are already under design for Phase 1B, which will be funded with the assistance of a $1 million Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grant.
